This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to drive the development of technologies which will feed the world.

 As a server side and most-of-stack developer, you will create architecture and implement software to make Wilma, our core operating system. Wilma is the smarts behind our family of robots; Tom, Dick and Harry. Wilma applies AI, collective farming expertise and user input to the data gathered by the bots to instruct their work on the farm.

In this position you will be key to the construction and development of a new platform for the automatic generation of digital maps and spatial data based on sensor information e.g. photographs, soil monitoring and robot telemetry. You will help implement and host our artificial intelligence and data processing capability in the cloud, on site and at the edge. You will be responsible for development of the back end technology behind our user facing portal.

The role will entail use of a wide range of cloud computing technologies with particular emphasis on high data volumes, security and availability, geospatial data and web hosting.

You will be our authority on good software development working practices and be able to pass that knowledge to our growing team of engineers.

As we are a startup and everyone mucks in, you will also have to take on a few tasks outside of the traditional developer role to support our growing company.

Key Skills:

  • Linux - shell scripting, configuration

  • Solid AWS (or Azure or similar) Cloud computing experience

  • Python

  • Java, C++ or other heavyweight back end language

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology

  • Significant experience of delivering live systems preferably with geospatial elements

  • Experienced building infrastructure for user facing portals/interfaces

  • API hosting and consumption

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in an agile environment, specifically Scrum or Kanban
    Team Leadership - experience of successfully leading teams

  • Edge computing approaches

  • Containerisation experience

  • Javascript/node.js

  • ROS (Robotic Operating System)

  • Degree or higher in Science, Engineering or Computer Science. Proven Experience is more desirable to us at this stage.

As a lead mechanical design engineer, you will be dedicated to transforming ideas and proofs of concepts into real robots.

You will be amazing at:

  • Creating, reviewing and signing off on a design brief

  • Concepting possible design solutions or evolutions to existing designs

  • Leading the research into whether a design will work and be cost-effective

  • Leading the assessment of the physical, emotional, usable, environmental impact of a design

  • Being chief CAD ninja

  • Iteratively collecting and analysing data from tests on prototypes, modifying the designs and retesting them

You will have:

You will have had experience in running a team of junior engineers and be able to introduce us to some of your biggest fans.

You will have created some pretty astonishing stuff - preferably robotic but we are open to suggestions.

Preferably, you will have designed for rugged outdoor environments.

Qualifications would be good, but suitable experience is just as important.

You will be a confident and experienced embedded or controls engineer who can bring their experience to help improve our systems.

You should also have demonstrable experience of growing a team and passing your knowledge to the next generation of engineers and be able to introduce us to some of your biggest fans.

As we are a startup and everyone mucks in, you will also have to take on a few tasks outside of the traditional embedded role to support our growing company.

Key Skills:

We are looking for someone with considerable administrative experience who can support the current operations and general office management team working alongside the current Executive Assistant / Office Manager to provide a seamless and robust support function within a dynamic and bustling company.

The role is an exciting and varied opportunity for someone to really put their own support skills to good use and would suit someone from a PA or Senior Administrator background.

We are all hard working and dedicated individuals and are looking for a new team member that can mirror the qualities outlined below.

In return, we offer a really fabulous working package with the flexibility to work remotely or from home at agreed hours to suit yourself. This is a recently appointed role so we are looking to start off at 2-3 days per week (16-24 hours). However, there may be scope for this to increase as the role has the potential to grow in tandem with the business.

The role will require one day per week at our Central Portsmouth work space to work alongside our current Executive Assistant/Office Manager and one day every fortnight (TBC) at our bespoke new facility in West Dean - which is just outside of Salisbury and easily commutable from Southampton, Basingstoke, Winchester, Andover and the Thames Valley tech corridor.

You will have:

  • An inquisitive nature and be a person that takes pride in their work with a strong attention to detail

  • A good work ethic and the discipline to work both remotely and as part of a close knit team to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner

  • The ability to read and respond to diary cues in order to support hectic schedules.

  • Written professionalism and maturity, particularly when responding to emails - this role will often be the first point of contact from outside parties (potential / current stakeholders or customers)

  • The ability to simply ‘get stuff done’ and take ownership of tasks with no project too big or small

  • A logical mind and expert multi-tasker that can prioritise requests accordingly

  • Demonstrable ability to deal with multiple projects and tasks whilst maintaining unflappable organisation and effective levels of productivity as Small Robot Company evolves at a remarkable pace.

  • Process Mapping Experience would be desirable but not essential.

Responsible for (although not limited to):

  • Management of the CRM systems and databases

  • Management of the central mailbox for inbound contact

  • Work with Head of Delivery and Office Manager/Executive Assistant to develop and record processes for effective business process management

  • Diligent Diary Coordination where required and proactive management of travel and rescheduling appointments where required

  • Assistance with event coordination and occasional Marketing support

  • Ensuring all supplies for the office are ordered and replenished where needed

  • Assist with meeting prep where necessary

  • Assist team with HR responsibilities e.g. onboarding, etc.

  • Interaction with all sections of the business and support each function when required

  • Adhoc administration and support for team where required and an understanding that as with all start-up companies, everyone mucks in and there are occasions the demands of the role may fall within other areas
